Genealogical Society of the Northern Territory Inc

A number of people think we are all about our own family history. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our Library is run by Volunteers, there is no paid staff. We do have some Volunteers who are quyalified to help those seeking to reconnect to family past and present. Cyclones and War has meant some families have left the Territory to live elsewhere in Australia. For many reasons families have lost touch and later generations want to reconnect and find out where they came from, who are members of their family. Most importantly the story of how their family lived, where they lived, worked and their achievements. For some the contribution to the Territory was enormous. First Nation's research is at times particularly challenging. The Library's Volunteers have indexed hundreds of different NT publications, cemetery records, some church, Birth, Deatbh and Marriage records, Probates, Police Jourtnals, NT newspapers, Land applications, mining, pastoral and mineral licences, pearling, and various NT census records and archive documents to help in reconnecting families. This is an important part of our Volunteer work. Without access to various paid subscription web sites researching is difficult.
